A consultation is any combination of history taking, physical examination, and explanation and discussion of the clinical findings and prognosis. A consultation can also be the service provided by a practitioner whose opinion or advise regarding evaluation and/or management of a specific problem is requested by another practitioner or other appropriate source.
Narrative reporting is the art of communicating findings and opinions to someone, generally in written format. This is usually asked for by an attorney or the insurance industry.
Well written narratives can be helpful to all in determining the reality of a case. Conversely a less well written narrative can lead to confusion and inappropriate result.
